Bells of Ireland (Moluccella laevis)
The Bells of Ireland bloom in the late summer. The Bells of Ireland, 'Moluccella laevis', has tall spikes of apple-green "bells" that are perfect for the back of a border. The Bells of Ireland are excellent for cut or dried flowers. Due to demand, availability may be limited. Not only Irish eyes will smile at this unusual plant. They are self sowing because the plants will come back the next year from the seed it drops. Plant in early spring, 2 to 4 weeks before last spring frost or late fall for early spring germination. It's bright greenbells with their tiny white "clappers" are always a conversation piece.
